Lantern Festival 2019

The Taiwan Lantern Festival 2019 takes place in Pingtung City(屏东), Dapeng (大鹏) and Dongang(东港) from 19 February to 3 March. Now into its 30th year, the dazzling festival attracts 10 million tourists, both local and foreign.
It adopts a slogan “Ping an peng lai, Light-up30” (屏安鹏来,光耀30) cleverly playing on the pun of ’‘ping’( 屏) as in Pingtung(屏东) and ‘peng’ (鹏) as in Dapeng (大鹏). The wide array of food, city sights, nature attractions and lanterns beckons! After a comfortable flight to Kaoshuing and a relaxing ride through the city where local residents too immerse themselves in this mega event, one is awed by the many lanterns showcasing the creativity of the Taiwanese.

The main attraction of Taiwan’s Lantern Festival is a 16-metre high depicts a giant tuna jumping out of sea, aptly called “Tuna Brings Wealth”.
Clearly a departure from the usual theme that features the Chinese zodiac animals of the year. Pingtung has decided to showcase the rich marine agriculture that it is well-known for! This giant golden tuna lantern in its majesty overlooks the Dapeng Bay. It will be permanently on display as a landmark of Dapeng Bay in Pingtung.

Being the Year of the Pig in 2019, it is only appropriate these cute animals take centre-stage in this grand show of lanterns.
