BANDED KINGFISHERS

Khao Yai, Thailand and Raub, Pahang
The male BKf is brilliantly coloured (bright blue crown and with blue banding on its back. The female BKf has orange/bright brown and black patterns on its back and both have rather large heads (even more so when the head feathers are fluffed up).

The nesting hole cannot be seen but this pair usually perches before proceeding to feed its young. However, there were a few branches they could perch on. I decided on one branch but the birds may not necessarily perch there. The background was clear but I was on a 20-30 degree slope and I was slipping by the minute. The rest of the photographers were more comfortable by the tarred road and they had more options on the branches but the backgrounds were messy. I had the most severe backache after that.
